Before and After Partial Conversion to Black & White

This screencast demonstrates a method for partial conversion to black & white that works for both Photoshop CS and Photoshop Elements. It is approximately 8 and a half minutes long. You will need broadband to view it comfortably. This is one of many editing techniques covered on our photo-editing courses. You can click on our homepage tab to check for upcoming courses. If there are no editing courses listed but you are interested, just send us an email and we’ll try to organise one soon. Feel free to pass the link on elsewhere if you think it’s useful. Please also feel free to download the .mp4 file (playable in Quicktime or VLC player) from the following page:

Note: For photoshop elements users, to change the hardness or softness of the brush: select the brush tool from the tools palette and then click on the brush symbol on the right hand side of the options list across the top of the screen … the one that says ‘brush dynamics’ if you hover over it.

  1. Peter, that was very interesting, so, thank you very much. I have photoshop 3 but never used it, as I didn’t know how too. I will put that info into practice :-) You’re so helpful!

    Good stuff Peter
